What is Sound Healing?

Sound Immersion, also known as sound healing or sound therapy, is an auditory journey that envelops participants in a sea of harmonious sounds, often created by a variety of instruments such as crystal bowls, gongs, chimes, and drums. This symphony of sounds is carefully orchestrated to induce a meditative state, providing a deeply relaxing and transformative experience.

What is the benefit of Sound Healing?

Sound Healing is so effective because it influences our emotional bodies as well as our physical and energetic bodies. Some of the beneficial effects may include: deep relaxation, relief of stress/anxiety, relief from pain, improved digestion, improved concentration, increased sense of well-being, more restful sleep, improving energy flow in the body, normalizes blood pressure, improved self-confidence, feeling more balanced in life, releasing emotional trauma, heightened clarity, and spiritual transformation.

What would a typical Sound
Healing session look like?

Setting the Space:
The session is usually conducted in a calm, quiet environment with soft lighting and a tranquil atmosphere to encourage relaxation.

Positioning:
If it is a solo session, the client lies fully clothed on a massage table. A blanket may be provided if desired for warmth and security, as well as an eye mask. If it is a group session (2 or more), participants will sit or lie down on yoga mats with pillows, blankets and eye masks.

Sound moves as much energy as reiki. Emotional release or falling asleep is normal.

Initial Discussion:
For group sessions, I usually like to have an idea of what they are looking for beforehand, such as a theme, or special occasion, and then create from there.

Instruments Used:
Tibetan or Crystal Singing Bowls: Create harmonic tones that resonate with the body’s energy centers (chakras).
Gongs: Produce deep, resonant vibrations that can promote deep relaxation.
Tuning Forks: Emit specific frequencies to target physical and energetic imbalances.
Drums: Provide grounding and rhythmic beats.
Chimes and Bells: Add light, ethereal tones.

The session ends with a gradual return to full awareness. I might guide participants through breathing exercises, grounding techniques, or a brief meditation.

How should I prepare for
a Sound Healing session?

To receive the most benefit from your Sound Healing session please try to:

  • Take some time to relax before the session.

  • Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended.

  • Make sure that you have eaten a snack and are hydrated so that you are not distracted by hunger or thirst.

  • Avoid eating a heavy meal so that your body’s energy is not directed towards digesting.

  • Avoid caffeine if possible.

What should I do after
a Sound Healing session?

Take a few minutes to ground yourself. A lot of energy gets moved so I offer a glass of water after. You can also walk around barefoot or do some gentle stretches.

Depending on the time of day and intention of the healing e.g. for more rest or for more creativity you may feel revitalized ready to go about your day or you may feel ready for bed. Every "body" is different.
